Institute of Social Work hosts Erasmus+ staff and strengthens global cooperation
The Institute of Social Work at Lusófona University – University Centre of Lisbon recently had the privilege of welcoming three lecturers from the Universitat de Lleida, within the framework of an Erasmus+ mobility programme focused on training and academic exchange.
During their stay, the researchers carried out a range of scientific and pedagogical activities centred on a highly relevant contemporary issue: the participation of migrant families in educational contexts and the challenges associated with social inclusion.
This initiative, organised and led by the Institute of Social Work, provided a space for critical reflection and knowledge sharing among lecturers, researchers, and students, fostering dialogue between different European realities in the field of social and educational policies.
The programme included a specialised seminar in which empirical research findings developed in Spain were presented, alongside a discussion of the factors that influence the involvement of migrant families in school life. This debate highlighted the fundamental role of Social Work in intercultural mediation, in promoting participation, and in strengthening social cohesion.
The presence of the lecturers from the Universitat de Lleida further reinforced the international dimension of the Institute of Social Work at Lusófona University, consolidating networks of academic and scientific cooperation. This exchange contributed to deepening comparative knowledge between educational contexts in Southern Europe, highlighting similarities, shared challenges, and opportunities for intervention.
For the Institute of Social Work, this initiative is part of a broader strategy of internationalisation, the promotion of applied research, and a commitment to critical and transformative professional practices. This mobility opens the door to future collaborations in European projects, particularly in the fields of social inclusion, cultural diversity, and socio-educational intervention.

New Book on Research Methods in International Relations Features Contributions from LusoGlobe Researchers
A new academic volume published by Almedina, Manual de Métodos de Investigação em Relações Internacionais (April 2026), brings together leading scholars to provide a comprehensive introduction to research methods in the field of International Relations.
The book is edited by Susana Rogeiro Nina, Liliana Reis and João Terrenas, and represents an important contribution to methodological training in the discipline. The volume introduces a range of key approaches, including statistical, comparative, historical-comparative, ethnographic, mixed methods, and simulation-based research, offering a structured guide for students and researchers across different stages of academic development.
Each chapter is organized around four core questions: the logic of the method, its use in International Relations, its suitability for different research designs, and its advantages and limitations. This pedagogical structure makes the book particularly relevant for teaching and capacity-building in the field.
The volume also includes contributions from Sabrina Medeiros (co-authored with Ana Paiva) and Teresa Nogueira Pinto, further reinforcing LusoGlobe’s role in advancing methodological innovation and interdisciplinary research in International Relations.
This publication reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen research training and to bridge theoretical and applied approaches, including the growing relevance of simulation and mixed-method designs in contemporary global studies. A book lauching event will be hosted by LusoGlobe soon.
Presentation session for the book O Fim da Ordem Única: Poder, Liderança e Conflito no Século XXI
The Universidade Lusófona, in partnership with Canal Now and Edições Sílabo, hosted a presentation session for the book O Fim da Ordem Única: Poder, Liderança e Conflito no Século XXI, authored by José Filipe Pinto.
The event took place on 18 February at 17:30, at the Auditório Agostinho da Silva, Universidade Lusófona, Campo Grande 376, Lisbon.
The session was chaired by Prof. Doutor Manuel de Almeida Damásio, President of COFAC. The book was presented by Eng. Luís Mira Amaral, Prof. Doutor António Nogueira Leite, Camilo Lourenço, and Prof. Doutor Francisco Proença Garcia.
The publication examines the transformation of global power dynamics in the twenty-first century, analysing leadership, geopolitical competition, and conflict in a period marked by structural transitions in the international system. The work reflects on how power reorganises itself when dominant global orders face disruption, offering insights into contemporary strategic and political challenges.
Threats in the Network: Organized Crime, Terrorism and Violence
Sabrina Medeiros was invited as a speaker in the international event “Threats in the Network: Organized Crime, Terrorism and Violence”, held at Universidad Complutense de Madrid on March 23, 2026.
The event brought together scholars and experts from several European institutions, including Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Camilo José Cela, and UDIMA, fostering an interdisciplinary discussion on contemporary challenges in cybersecurity.
In her talk, “Digital Sovereignty and Cyber Power: Rethinking Security Beyond the Virtual”, Sabrina Medeiros examined cybercrime as a structured global economy, highlighting its transnational value chains, market dynamics, and implications for international governance.
The presentation emphasized three key dimensions:
• the increasing economic sophistication of cybercrime, including models such as ransomware-as-a-service
• the limitations of fragmented regulatory responses in addressing agile global illicit economies
• the need to strengthen multilateral governance frameworks, including greater inclusion of Global South perspectives
The event also featured contributions on pharmaceutical trafficking and illicit markets in the dark web, cyber fraud, and terrorism in cyberspace, offering a comprehensive overview of emerging threats.
The event was organized by Professors Concepción Anguita Olmedo, Carolina Sampó, and Carmen Jordá, to whom we extend our appreciation for the invitation and excellent academic coordination.
