In the wake of scandals and in the midst of inflationary turmoil, the Portuguese prime minister, Antonio Costa, has seen his popularity drop one year after an electoral triumph that should guarantee the stability of his socialist government.
“If stability was necessary a year ago, today it is even more”, declared Costa this week, referring to the consequences of “the terrible inflation wave” resulting from the war in Ukraine.
