Strategic Awareness in South Atlantic
The event examined South Atlantic countries' opportunities and challenges within the current international framework. By focusing on the National Defence of the South Atlantic state actors, discussions will revolve around critical aspects such as the security of the Amazon, the future of South American cooperation, the Atlantic basin, and the Portuguese-Speaking-Countries Community (CPLP).
The event took place on the 20th of October with the coordination of Raphael Lima (Kings College London), Oscar Filho (CEEEx) and Sabrina Medeiros (LusoGlobe).
Bringing together experts and stakeholders from South Atlantic countries, the event provides a platform to explore these nations' unique challenges in the national defence realm. The security of the Amazon, a vital region for the participating countries, will be a central topic of discussion, emphasising environmental protection and sustainable development.
The future of South American cooperation will also be examined, considering shared security concerns and socioeconomic interests among South Atlantic nations. The event will explore the potential for enhanced regional collaboration, including joint defence initiatives and strategic partnerships.
As a strategic area for the participating countries' defence and international relations, the Atlantic basin will be a focal point of the discussions. Participants will explore maritime security challenges and opportunities, economic cooperation, and potential avenues for regional integration within the North and South Atlantic.
Furthermore, the event will analyse the dynamics and significance of the Portuguese-Speaking- Countries Community (CPLP) in relation to the national defence of South Atlantic countries. The opportunities and challenges of cooperation within this community, leveraging linguistic and cultural ties, will be thoroughly explored.
