As a way of marking and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, Lusófona University has programmed and has been holding a set of events that, in different ways, seek to reflect the impact of the April Revolution on Portuguese society.
The Conference "Social Work and the Democratic Values of April", organized by the Institute of Social Work, was included in this set of events, which took place on the 22nd of April, at the Agostinho da Silva Auditorium.
It was intended to mark the historical moment and reflect on the impact of the revolution and the democratic values conquered in Social Work, in the field of social intervention and in the professional life of social workers.The Opening Session was attended by the Vice-Rector Carlos Poiares, Administration Conceição Soeiro and the Director of the Institute of Social Work, Hélia Bracons. Speakers, Teachers and Social Workers with significant experiences were present - Carlos Jacques, Jacqueline Marques, Pedro Silva, Graça André, Isabel Passarinho and Delmina Tomás.
The first part of the Conference ended with the viewing of a virtual photographic exhibition – "The doors that April opened: looks, captures and representations on the 25th of April" – organized by Ana Paula Garcia, and which was the result of the collection of images, representative of the 25th of April and its achievements, captured by professors, students of the Lusófona University and people from the community.
The Conference ended with the presence of the Plastic Artist, Jorge Romão, who presented the panel of his authorship, consisting of paintings and collages of postcards and pamphlets, mostly original, which portray the propaganda of the Estado Novo, as well as slogans about the revolutionary period of the 25th of April.
