Charter of Principles of the Observatory for Religious Freedom (OLR)
The Observatory for Religious Freedom (OLR) was born from a civic and academic initiative, with the main mission of observing the Religious Phenomenon, respecting the principle of associative, individual and conscience freedoms.
Promoting its own initiatives and/or establishing partnerships, OLR's mission is also to monitor and facilitate cultural dialogue processes, specifically the dialogue between belief structures, in the form of religions and/or spiritualities, promoting respect for differences and social responsibility, for a full and active citizenship.
Crossing knowledge and information, the OLR will provide religious communities, academia and society in general, with mechanisms for identifying, signaling and analyzing the Religious Phenomenon, in defense of Religious Freedom and based on the Charter of Human Rights. As an independent structure at the service of cultural pluralism, the OLR will gather and issue summaries of activity and make public an annual report.
The OLR recognizes the complexity of the Religious Phenomenon, the value of different religious and/or spiritual cultures and planes of consciousness, the challenge of dialogue, the stimulation of citizenship practices from the observation of the rights and duties inherent to Religious Freedom, the importance of the study and dissemination of the Science of Religions, as well as the production of unbiased knowledge related to the Religious Phenomenon in all officially recognized levels of education (November 2014).
