LusoGlobe’s President and senior researcher Professor António Costa Pinto will participate as a keynote speaker at the international conference “Construcción y expansión de las Nuevas Ultraderechas nacionales y transnacionales en las Américas y Europa,” organized by the CALAS Platform for Dialogue and hosted at FLACSO Ecuador from 1–2 December 2025.
The two-day event gathers leading scholars from Latin America, Europe, and the United States to examine the political, cultural, and digital dynamics shaping the rise of contemporary far-right movements. The program includes thematic sessions on authoritarian practices in digital spaces, memory politics, transnational networks, security and militarization, and gendered narratives within radical right ideologies.
Professor Costa Pinto will deliver one of the conference’s magisterial lectures, titled: “Las genealogías político-culturales de la Derecha Radical contemporánea. Comparado olas de autocratización.” (“The Political-Cultural Genealogies of the Contemporary Radical Right: Comparing Waves of Autocratization”). In addition to the keynote session, Professor Costa Pinto also contributes to the closing panel “Derechas históricas, comparaciones y genealogías,” where he presented research on fascism and the radical right in Brazil, offering an analytical bridge between European and Latin American cases. The event forms part of the broader CALAS research agenda on democratic erosion and political polarization, reinforcing academic cooperation between institutions in Europe and the Americas.
