LusoGlobe welcomes a presentation addressing the factors that shape citizens’ interest in European elections and the extent to which democratic conditions influence political engagement across the European Union.
The presentation, entitled “European Elections: What Makes Citizens Care? The Moderating Effect of the Level of Democracy (EU28)”, explores the relationship between democratic quality, electoral participation, and citizens’ attitudes towards European political processes. Focusing on the EU28, the discussion examined how variations in the level of democracy may moderate the factors associated with citizens’ interest in European elections.
The session contributes to broader debates on democratic representation, political participation, and electoral behaviour in Europe, highlighting the importance of understanding how institutional and political contexts shape citizens’ engagement with democratic processes.
The speaker is a PhD candidate in Political Science and an invited teaching assistant at ISCTE-IUL. Her research interests include elections, compulsory voting, political attitudes, and political behaviour. The invittee is Susana Nina, researcher at LusoGlobe.
