Book Launch

April, 9, 2024

The presentation of the book “Secularization – Genealogies, Models and Debates” (edited in Portuguese), by Professor Jorge Botelho Moniz will take place in the Professor José Araújo Auditorium, on April 9 at 6:45 p.m.

This work seeks to debate the place of religion in modern societies. Through the lens of theories of secularization, it is shown how this is a fruitful but irresolvable field of debate. It presents an epistemology of secularization, updating the discussion around the religion-modernity binomial.

It looks at the genealogy of secularization, its theoretical models and the new methodologies that allow its contemporary understanding. Traditional and modern debates are discussed, a new methodological proposal is put forward and a renewed vision of the phenomenon of displacement and recomposition of religion in societies marked by cultural diversity is proposed.

“A decisive text on a great contemporary debate about the relations between religion and the dynamics of modernity”. (Prof. Doctor Alfredo Teixeira)
