As part of LusoGlobe’s ongoing efforts to foster collaboration and deepen research ties, Prof Sabrina Medeiros , a Vice President of LusoGlobe, visited the Geneva Graduate Institute to meet with Prof. Graziela de Moraes Silva, a distinguished member of the LusoGlobe Advisory Board. Prof. Silva, who has been with the Graduate Institute’s Anthropology and Sociology Department since 2016, has significantly contributed to the fields of race relations, inequality, and elite perceptions of poverty.
The visit marked an important moment for LusoGlobe’s integrated researchers, strengthening connections with key figures in international academic discourse. Prof. Silva’s career reflects her deep commitment to interdisciplinary and comparative approaches to social issues. Before joining the Graduate Institute, she served at the Department of Sociology at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where she continues to collaborate with the Graduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology (PPGSA) and the Interdisciplinary Network for the Study of Inequality (NIED). Her research network also extends to South Africa, where she works closely with the Center for Social Development in Africa (CSDA) at the University of Johannesburg.
During the discussions, Prof. Silva shared insights from her current research on comparative race relations and elite perspectives on inequality, which she leads as Principal Investigator in the FNS-funded Elites in Unequal Democracies project. Her active involvement in the Global Race Project further enriches her contributions to understanding global power dynamics and social inequality.
The visit also highlighted Prof. Silva’s editorial work with leading journals such as the Journal of Latin American Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Ethnic Studies, and International Development Policy. Her editorial leadership ensures that critical topics related to development and inequality remain at the forefront of academic debate.
For LusoGlobe, this visit signifies a continued effort to build strong academic partnerships, grounded in the shared mission of advancing research that addresses pressing global challenges. Prof. Graziela de Moraes Silva’s involvement with LusoGlobe’s Advisory Board adds valuable perspective to the organization’s endeavors, bridging expertise from Latin America, South Africa, and beyond.
