A new academic volume published by Almedina, Manual de Métodos de Investigação em Relações Internacionais (April 2026), brings together leading scholars to provide a comprehensive introduction to research methods in the field of International Relations.
The book is edited by Susana Rogeiro Nina, Liliana Reis and João Terrenas, and represents an important contribution to methodological training in the discipline. The volume introduces a range of key approaches, including statistical, comparative, historical-comparative, ethnographic, mixed methods, and simulation-based research, offering a structured guide for students and researchers across different stages of academic development.
Each chapter is organized around four core questions: the logic of the method, its use in International Relations, its suitability for different research designs, and its advantages and limitations. This pedagogical structure makes the book particularly relevant for teaching and capacity-building in the field.
