New Book on Research Methods in International Relations Features Contributions from LusoGlobe Researchers

April, 2026

A new academic volume published by Almedina, Manual de Métodos de Investigação em Relações Internacionais (April 2026), brings together leading scholars to provide a comprehensive introduction to research methods in the field of International Relations.

The book is edited by Susana Rogeiro NinaLiliana Reis and João Terrenas, and represents an important contribution to methodological training in the discipline. The volume introduces a range of key approaches, including statistical, comparative, historical-comparative, ethnographic, mixed methods, and simulation-based research, offering a structured guide for students and researchers across different stages of academic development.

Each chapter is organized around four core questions: the logic of the method, its use in International Relations, its suitability for different research designs, and its advantages and limitations. This pedagogical structure makes the book particularly relevant for teaching and capacity-building in the field.

The volume also includes contributions from Sabrina Medeiros (co-authored with Ana Paiva) and Teresa Nogueira Pinto, further reinforcing LusoGlobe’s role in advancing methodological innovation and interdisciplinary research in International Relations.

This publication reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen research training and to bridge theoretical and applied approaches, including the growing relevance of simulation and mixed-method designs in contemporary global studies. A book lauching event will be hosted by LusoGlobe soon.
