Vasco Rato obtained his BA and MA in Political Science from the University of Manitoba, Canada, and his PhD in Government from Georgetown University. He is an Associate Professor at Lusófona University and a member of the Scientific Council of the Portuguese Institute of International Relations. Between 2007 and 2009, he was a Visiting Professor at Georgetown University. He was editor-in-chief of Política Internacional and has published articles in “Nação e Defesa”, “Análise Social”, “Risco”, “Revista de Ciência Política” and other periodicals. In the media, he was a columnist for Diário de Notícias, O Independente, O Liberal, Diário Económico and Semanário. He was also a commentator on political and international affairs at Rádio Renascença, RTP2 and SIC. He currently writes for Revista Sábado. From 2014 to 2019, he was President of the Fundação Luso-Americana para o Desenvolvimento (FLAD). His most recent books “De Mao a Xi: O Ressurgimento da China” (2020) and “Tsunami: Trump, trumpismo e a Europa” (2023).
