LusoGlobe Scholars Participate in the III Seminar on Transnational Crimes and Global Insecurities

Aug, 2025

On August 26, 2025, the III Seminar on Transnational Crimes and Global Insecurities was held online, organized by the Laboratory for Research on Security, Peace and Development (Lab-Sepade) of the Escola Superior de Guerra, in collaboration with REDHIPAS (Red de Historia de las Policías de América del Sur).

The event gathered researchers and practitioners to discuss pressing issues such as organized crime, terrorism, climate change, and cyber threats, highlighting their impacts on governance and international security.

Representing the Lusófona Centre on Global Challenges (LusoGlobe) and as part of REDHIPAS, researchers Sabrina Medeiros and Silvia Mangerona contributed to the debate with distinct but complementary perspectives. Silvia Mangerona opened the seminar with the presentation “Ethics and Security: New Transnational Challenges,” addressing the moral dilemmas posed by the evolving dynamics of global insecurity. Sabrina Medeiros later presented “Human Trafficking and Cyber Crimes,” exploring the convergence between digital technologies and transnational crime, and underlining the importance of interagency cooperation in countering illicit networks.

Other speakers included renowned experts from PUC-Minas, UFF, and the Escola Superior de Guerra, who engaged in debates on organized crime, radicalization, terrorism, climate change litigation, and food insecurity.

The seminar reaffirmed the commitment of LusoGlobe and REDHIPAS scholars to advancing knowledge and fostering dialogue on critical security challenges in the Global South and beyond.
