GIRI-hub KML Complex Emergency Simulation

The GIRI-hub simulation was a success! The game book will be revised according to the simulation results and will be available soon at the OPEN AIRE, EU base.

Visiting Professor at William Perry Center, NDU, Washington DC

Sabrina Medeiros was invited as a "visiting professor in Maritime Security" by the William Perry Center, National Defense University in Washington DC, between May 13 and 23, 2024. Sabrina Medeiros was dedicated to the themes of Maritime Commerce Security, Maritime Domain Awareness, and International Maritime Crimes, in partnership with Prof. Patrick Paterson. The students were linked to port institutions or maritime authorities, coast guards, or navies from all over the Americas. The course has a mission in Cartagena, Colombia, to expand knowledge about port security and joint and interagency operations to combat crimes at sea.

New academic article: “Religious populism in Portugal: The cases of Chega! and CDS - People's Party” by our researchers Profs. Jorge Botelho Moniz and José Brissos-Lino has been published in the journal Análise Social (vol. 59, no. 251, pp. 2-30, 2024) of the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

Social Work and the challenges of intervention

On the 22nd of May, the Seminar on Social Work and the challenges of intervention took place at the Lusófona University – University Centre of Lisbon and Porto. This first joint and simultaneous event was organized by the coordinators of the degree in Social Work in Lisbon and Porto, Hélia Bracons and Cristiana Almeida. We had excellent speakers who, each one, with their knowledge and reflection, shared and disturbed us with their communications on the challenges of intervention in Social Work.

Welcoming Migrants: integration of children

In a partnership between the School of Education of Lusophony – IPLUSO, with the Degree in Social Work of the Lusófona University – Centro Universitário Lisboa, Professor Hélia Bracons and Master Mariana Anes, on May 31st, went to speak to the finalist students of Basic Education about Welcoming Migrants: integration of children in a school context.  The event was conceived with the aim of raising awareness and reflecting on sociocultural diversity and interculturality in increasingly diverse educational contexts.
